ZWO 7 position, 2-inch Filter Wheel Unboxing Video
As part of the move towards getting a two camera/telescope wide-field setup together, I knew that a filter wheel was going to be part of the deal at some point.
The basic idea is this: Use one camera to take a plain white light, high resolution shots (the “Luminance” layer) and the other camera to take the color (RGB) or Hydrogen/Oxygen/Sulphur filtered shots. This way you can pull down a lot of data pretty quickly and get a pretty ‘deep’ image in one night’s shooting.
One of the scopes I’ll be using for this is the RASA 11” scope but you can’t put a filter wheel on that because the camera us up front and the wheel would block incoming starlight. the other scope will be the Skywatcher 4” refractor which will have the filter wheel and 2nd camera.
Filter wheels are cool in that they’re automated. Each filter is numbered and you keep a map of which filter is in which filter number so your picture taking software knows when to switch to the O3 filter before taking the following 60-whatever images.
So here’s a little move in that direction: I give you the slightly overblown, “ZWO Filter Wheel Unboxing Video”
